Passenger bus accounts for 13 lives

POKHARA: Thirteen people were killed and 37 others injured when a Pokhara-bound overloaded passenger bus skidded off, and plunged 150 metres below into a gorge in Sarangkot VDC-1 around 10 this morning. The vehicle, which had 52 passengers on board, was coming from Kaskikot. The victims are mostly residents of Kaskikot and Sarangkot VDCs. The injured are undergoing treatment at Manipal Teaching Hospital, Eastern Regional Hospital and Charak Hospital in the Lake City. Some are still unconscious due to concussion. District Police Office, Kaski, said that two patients have been sent to the capital for treatment. The police are suspecting that the accident might have occurred due to brake failure. Locals took part in rescue operations, helping the injured to be ferried to the hospitals.
